Caberfae Peaks - What’s New for 2008-2009
We’ve been busy this summer with many improvements. Check out what we’ve been working on. Caberfae Peaks is located in Northern Michigan’s snowbelt. Located in high elevation and the perfect distance from Lake Michigan, the “lake effect” snow machine manufactures 150 inches of annual snowfall at the Peaks!

The terrain at Caberfae Peaks is very diverse. From gentle cruisers like the 3/4 of a mile run Smiling Irishman, to the thrilling steeps of Bullet & GG’s Ride, Caberfae Peaks boasts some of the state’s longest runs and biggest vertical drops. You can drive further north, but you won’t find bigger hills!

Snowmaking: Caberfae Peaks Goes Green!

Installed a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), which will allow our snowmaking pumps to consume up to 33% less energy during snowmaking. The VFD will result in a more efficient start-up, operation & shut-down of our snowmaking system

The VFD is a major step in our plans to upgrade our snowmaking capacity and performance over the next several years

Extended the Smiling Irishmen pipeline with additional gun hook-ups to allow for an earlier Smiling Irishmen opening

Terrain Expansion:

Continued with the widening of Smiling Irishmen moving over 4,000 cubic yards of earth as of mid August

MacKenzie Lodge:

Added Wi-Fi access to the MacKenzie Lodge for houseguests

Installed lockers off the lobby of the hotel for ski, snowboard, boots & pole storage with each room receiving a locker for the duration of their stay. Guests will now enjoy the convenience of ski & board storage on the first level!
Rental Equipment:

New Demo Center offering the latest (2008) Volkl and Nordica demos. The Demo Center will be based out of our Tune Shop in the rental facility.

· To help promote ski safety, the Peaks now rents helmets

Cammy’s Jib Park & Little Jibber’s Park:

· Two new jib parks on Cruiser. The new park locations will facilitate an earlier park opening. Both parks will feature fun boxes, rails, jibs & other features

· New jib park features for this season

o 12’ long and 6’ high wall ride

o 16’ fun-box

Nastar:

Back for it’s second season at the Peaks, Nastar has a new location

o Nastar will now be run on “Olympia” (former park location) race venue on South Peak

o New ski racing headquarters on Olympia

New Ski & Snowboard School Location:

· The ski & snowboard school registration will now be located within our rental facility on weekends and holidays!

· Advance reservations are strongly recommended, however, the new snowsports desk will allow for easy last minute lesson registration

Superb Skiing!
Experience a true Nordic skiing adventure at the glacier-sculptured hills of McGuire’s cross-country ski trails (10km). 3km of this spectacular trail meanders underneath a canopy of lush evergreens. The trail is professionally groomed on a regular basis, ensuring guests the most favorable conditions possible.

McGuire’s Ski Shop specializes in Leki brand poles with aluminum shafts and Karhu skis. Karhu uses advanced technology to create skis that have shorter length, ample width and sure grip, making both first-time and experienced skiers feel right at home on the trail. The versatile design works well on both groomed trails and off the beaten path. Use your own gear or rent ours when you glide through one of many of the area’s trails, including the Mackenzie Trail in the Huron-Manistee National Forest, located just past Caberfae Peaks, or on the popular Cadillac Pathway, weaving along the Clam River.

If you’d rather break trail, you can also rent snowshoes made of lightweight aircraft aluminum. These allow you to take longer excursions without experiencing the muscle stress of traditional snowshoe equipment. Children’s sizes are available.

Blaze Our Trails!
McGuire’s Resort features 10km of groomed trails (open dusk to 11 p.m.). Ski trail fees are free of charge for registered guests and $5 per day for visitors. Trail fees are collected at the Ski Shop. Snowshoe trails are always free of charge.
